This multi professional module is suitable for those individuals currently involved in the assessment and treatment of patients with upper limb musculoskeletal conditions within any healthcare setting. The module will be taught using an interactive style using examples of where theory links to practice in the clinic setting. It will utilise a combination of lectures on key concepts, group work sessions, tutorials, seminars and self study to an essentially problem solving approach designed for postgraduate students. Applicants must be capable of studying at Masters Degree Level. Module Aims The primary aim of this module is to equip the healthcare professional with the requisite knowledge to undertake effective differential diagnosis following clinical examination of upper limb musculoskeletal conditions. In addition, to decide on appropriate therapeutic management based on the examination findings. The secondary aim is to develop the student's ability to reflect critically on his/her professional development within a specific practice environment. Syllabus The syllabus has been divided into 4 core components: - Anatomy & Biomechanics of the Upper Limb; - Assessment & Differential Diagnosis of Upper Limb Conditions (including blood & serum analysis, X ray interpretation, magnetic resonance imaging and medical ultrasound); - Pathology (content will include the major pathologies that affect the upper limb including reference to the pertinent signs and symptoms, for example osteoarthritis, rheumatogical conditions, soft tissue disorders and movement pattern dysfunctions); - Evidence Based Management Assessment A written assignment of 5000 words (this accounts for 70% of the final mark) and an oral presentation for 20 minutes using a PowerPoint format (this accounts for 30% of the final mark) Dates of Tutorials : 14th & 20th March, 10th, 19th & 24th April, 1st, 8th, 17th & 24th May 2013 Applications: Trust or Self funded (Cost £660) via the CPD Administrator: Teri Harding - terih@liverpool.ac.uk - 0151 794 5661 PQF funded applications (NHS North West) via www.cpd-applynw.nhs.uk
